SL in a smaller city, just outside downtown. (30 minute walk). Having an 8 year old changed our view of things and we longed for the house with the picket fence and the yard for him to play in. We found it in the next state over, in a smaller city. The traditional three bedroom ranch sat on a triple lot and had a detached two car garage. We grew our own vegetables, shopped small and local downtown and enjoyed biking to the local restaurant for a Saturday lunch. The famers market downtown was fun and there were music festivals, an art walk and sculpture symposium among other city events to enjoy. We lived on a dead end that abutted a rail trail that lead all the way to city hall. We also lived 1 block from a trail head that lead to a 325 acre city park with walking and biking trails that ran along the river. Culturally speaking we still drove the 30 minutes to our old city to participate in gallery openings and festivals and such. It was in this house that we developed our hobbies of gardening, biking and hiking as there were so many places to explore within a short drive.
